Hearts I'd Like to Steal

While flipping through the February issue of all the magazines I subscribe to, each has a Valentine's day spread of things with hearts and things that are red and pink that you should get for your sweetheart. Upon a heart based search of my own I found some cute little things I'd like for Valentine's Day. BOYS TAKE NOTE.

Lawn-ja-ray

In my Advanced Computer Apparel Design class we recently finished a three week unit researching and designing a lingerie as outerwear line. It's a HUGE trend for Spring and it's been in quite a few publications (Vogue and Elle had some excellent spreads). Anyway, most of my research consisted of consulting WGSN but it wasn't until yesterday that I went to the Agent Provocateur website to check out their product and here are a couple of my favorites:

Above: The Pantheria bra and brief and the Black Swan bodysuit.

Bette Davis Eyes

I saw this collection and died! John Galliano is already one of my favorites but this Pre-Fall 2010 line made me feel like I was in America circa 1940. World War II was going on, there were rations on fabric and the silhouettes turned masculine and looked very similar to military uniforms. Galliano also made sure to include glamorous dresses we would have seen in the forties as well. I felt like this collection bared a resemblance to Edith Head's designs for Bette Davis and Elizabeth Taylor.

Above: A few looks from the Dior collection.

Zulu, Queen of the Dwarf People

Zulu, Queen of the Dwarf People
Also known as Sophia Petrillo, Dorothy's "Ma". She's a feisty old world Sicilian with a distinct style: classic old lady. Picture it, Miami, the late eighties. Sack dresses (just like her daughter), flashy cardigans and her basket purse make up her trademark look. I think we all know she was the hottest lady at Shady Pines.

"Back in St. Olaf..."

"Back in St. Olaf..."
Just when Rose is about to start her St. Olaf story, this is about the time where Dorothy would take a newspaper and hit Rose over the head with it. Rose Nylund is the naïve Golden Girl with a heart of gold. She's very laid back in her clothing favoring flats, Keds and crew neck sweatshirts. But she also knows when to dress up, like when competing in a dance competition. I bet everyone's happy she doesn't dress like the rest of the people in the farmland she calls home.

"Toto, I Don't Think We're in Miami Anymore..."

"Toto, I Don't Think We're in Miami Anymore..."
Dot, Dot, what a girl I've got. Dorothy Zbornak is the one who tells it like it is; she is the sarcastic Golden Girl. Her style can be described as hobo chic with the oversized cardigans and sack dresses she is so clearly fond of. If you look closely, throughout the show she wears Chanel earrings very similar to this Chanel necklace. Dorothy would fit in perfectly today with her classic eighties style.

What Would Blanche Wear?

WWBW?
I have been feeling particularly inspired by the Golden Girls lately and decided to make a Polyvore for each one. I started with Miss Blanche Devereaux and picked out some outrageous eighties styles from today she would probably be wearing. Yes, I know my obsession with the Golden Girls SEEMS weird but I really think they were style icons from that time... Can't you just see Blanche going to the Rusty Anchor in that green dress? Or hanging down by the beach in those sunglasses and that "Hello Sailor" knit dress? I certainly can.
